Le Ranch Canin Manitou

Sanctuary for nordic dogs

In a world where dogs are constantly being asked to adapt to a life designed by and for humans, Ranch Canin Manitou is a unique sanctuary in Quebec that offers a respectful and caring alternative.

We offer the dogs a place where nothing is asked of them, except to cooperate in the smooth running of the sanctuary.

Our mission: respecting canine nature

  • Reduce stress and fear We create an environment where stress and worry triggers are eliminated or minimized. Dogs are never placed in situations where they need to protect themselves or feel insecure.
  • Encouraging natural behavior Here, dogs can freely express their canine nature, explore at their own pace, and use their bodies and senses without constraint.
  • Providing a safe space Dogs benefit from a Nordic setting adapted to their needs, with plenty of space to play, rest and live in harmony with their instincts.

Who are the sanctuary dogs?

At present, 19 dogs live permanently at the Ranch.

These are dogs who were looking for a home that wouldn't have fit anywhere else, or retired dogsledders, who live out their peaceful retirement here, surrounded by care and affection.

Where do the ranch dogs come from?

The sanctuary's dogs come from individuals and organizations. They are all "Nordic" dogs, acclimatized to life outdoors in Quebec's climatic conditions. When a space becomes available due to the death of a resident, new dogs may be admitted.

We also occasionally collaborate with organizations such as Chiots Nordiques and other shelters by temporarily taking in dogs in transition.

How does the Ranch work?

Ranch Canin Manitou finances its activities through :

  • To our dog boarding service, which reflects our values of ethics and respect for animals.
  • To various activities, such as dog coaching, yoga and meditation classes, the proceeds of which go directly to caring for the dogs.
  • One-off donations from individuals or organizations, as well as sponsorship schemes for certain dogs.

After covering the necessary expenses for the dogs (food, veterinary care, equipment), Maxime and Anne-Marie live off what's left, thanks to our humble, rustic lifestyle.

How can we help the sanctuary?

  • Promoting our pension service for dogs Talk about it, share our mission, and help us reach more families who are looking for an ethical and caring place for their companion.
  • Donate or sponsor a dog Every contribution goes directly towards the care, feeding and comfort of the dogs at the sanctuary.

You can make a donation at your pension reservation in the appropriate field.

You can also make a donation by Interac transfer to info@ranchcaninmanitou.ca, with the answer to the security question: manitou.
  • Participate in our activities : Dog training, yoga or meditation classes - all revenues generated are dedicated to the dogs.
  • Use our pension service for your own dogs By choosing Ranch Canin Manitou, you offer your companion a stay in an exceptional natural setting, while directly supporting our mission.

We don't pretend to be perfect, and our means are modest, but our empathy and compassion are sincere. At Ranch Canin Manitou, we believe that every dog deserves to live in peace, respecting his or her innermost nature.
